Digging at my leisure in our user base, and more specifically, delving into their contacts, I discovered twenty years of garbage and a whole platoon of my mother’s comedians, straight from the 2000s.
I’ll give you a few examples:
One user writes in the Twitter field: “Why do you need?", in the VK field he writes “Friends know”, and in the Skype field he puts “☎”. Well, let’s assume, ha. How can I look for you, friend??
Another one writes the address of his blog on LiveJournal instead of VK (I remind you that the site is 20 years old, we have dinosaur tracks in our database!), instead of Steam – your VK, and instead of Facebook* – a link to some game on Steam. I’m pkoa it’s all psial, I’m confused!
The third in each field indicated “http://www.stopgamegays.ru". (They’re starting to guess!)
Many got out as best they could and wrote links to their Twitch and YouTube anywhere. There are especially many links to Twitch in the Twitter field. Maybe they don’t realize that these are different services?
There were also very sad errors in the spirit of “https://MegaNagibator900”, “https://www.vkontatke.ru/MamkuVKinoVodil" or "https://http://facebook.com/gg.ez.2004" – people really wanted to do everything right, but they made typos or were dumb and as a result the links in their profiles don’t work.
There are also bots whose fields are filled with advertising links.

And to the fact that after thoroughly going through all 399,161 profiles and studying at least one and a half thousand errors generated by a specially trained script, I decided to carry out mass shootings! And already spent them.
Most of the "junk" data was caught and thrown overboard, and incorrect links, if possible, were corrected and moved to the correct fields.
Alas, I can’t give 100% guarantees: I only did what I could do automatically. Links in someone’s profile may still not lead to exactly where they should. And in some they could have been completely lost due to annoying typos.
The main task of all these fields is to tell the person looking for you where exactly to find you.
I don’t really want to encourage the behavior of "mom jokers" who only misinform others and waste other people’s time. Still, I am fighting so that you personally, dear reader, can use the site conveniently.
In addition, when during the redesign (yes, it is slowly approaching) we replace the text output of contacts with beautiful icon buttons, with links to the corresponding pages, it would be nice not to open a portal to hell at the same time, in which when you click on the VK button, at best you will end up in someone’s long-extinct LiveJournal, and at worst – to the “UPS” page! Everything is broken".
Don’t fill it out. These fields are optional and will no longer be an eyesore for you.
The system for storing contacts in the database and filling them out in the profile has changed a lot.
You can add as many contacts as you want from any network. Yes, all your three VK public pages, eight Discord twinks and two YouTube channels!
Yes, you didn’t think so, Discord, YouTube and Twitch appeared in the list of available networks! We are a portal about games or where?
Odnoklassniki and Skype were thrown to the sidelines of history. We are all progressive people here and we understand that there is no point in holding on to this old stuff. (for those especially worried: the ability to log in via Odnoklassniki has not gone away)
The new system will tell you how to fill out your contacts correctly and point out possible errors.
All rules for checking links and nicknames were honestly copied from the documentation for the corresponding services. If for some reason the site refuses to accept your absolutely correct information, it means someone hasn’t updated the documentation for a long time. And, before I forget: go to your profile and make sure that all the desired contacts have not disappeared, and the unwanted ones do not stick out in plain sight.
